Contains information pertaining to the following war: World War I. General description of the collection: The Harry L. Hillyard papers include general officer's papers such as official documents, orders, correspondence and reports of his assignments. There is a good study on the origins of the Joint chief of Staff and of the Army Reserve, Reserve Officer Training Corps [ROTC] and the active Army interaction. There is also a synopsis of the activities of the XXI Corps from 1943 to 1969. There are a lot of papers but not much in the way of substance.

The Department of Military Science was established at the University of Oregon in 1919. The school had sponsored military training through the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) program before the creation of a Military Science department.
